Is He An Evil Wizard?

This weekend, I saw Ponyo...for the second time.

Ponyo (Originally Ponyo On A Cliff By The Sea) is a movie by Hayao Miyazaki. Originally in Japanese, it has been translated and released into theaters. Ponyo is about a small fish/girl/goldfish thing named Ponyo who befriends a young boy named Sosuke and wants to become a human girl.

Ponyo is now one of my favorite movies. In addition to incredible music, the artwork is simply beautiful. The characters were lovable and adorable. This was a movie you could go out to see on a date or take a little sibling to.

That said, this movie made sense, but there were some sketchy parts. For example, Ponyo and Sosuke fall in love. How can you explain to your child/cousin/sibling that a five year fell in love with another five year old and they're going to live happily ever after because that's how love works? As my one friend noted, it's probably like they're going to be best friends forever, but it probably translated into magical fishy love. Still, the movie was adorable and awesome. I would definitely recommend going to see it and while you're at it, rent Howl's Moving Castle, another Miyazaki film...but we'll have more on that later ;)
